Aggregators and Navigators…

20 June, 2007

From the great Techcrunch blog – Veoh has announced an aggregator app (or should that be ‘navigator’?) for online video. It’s clear that the sheer volume and fragmentation of online video requires just such applications to surface. Veoh has the most polished offering (from first glance) but there are others outh there too. Check out http://www.chime.tv for another example. Veoh does differ in that its UI works on a TV as well as PC. The success of these services will be won or lost (IMHO) on how good the UI is and how well the search function performs.

With the balkanization of the system tray, with multiple instances of this or that download manager running simultaneously, these types of services become very attractive. For now, Veoh’s solution avoids content rights issues, going for publicly available video sources.
